Ten bars not to miss |
PRAGUE NIGHTLIFE
There is more to Prague's nightlife than badly-behaved stag and hen parties from the UK. Prague simply abounds in bars, cafes and clubs in every shape and size and to suit every age, taste and budget. From a delicious cheap beer in a traditional Czech pub to the fanciest cocktails in the ritziest bars, Prague has something for everyone.
TRETTERS BAR
Surely Prague's most well-known and popular cocktail bar, Mikhail Tretter's eponymous Old Town establishment continues to draw in the crowds attracted by wonderful Mojitos and Strawberry Daquiris and almost 200 other concoctions served by good-looking bartenders and waitresses. The most likely place to spot a Czech footballer or ice hockey star.
Open daily 7pm to 3am.
V Kolkovnì 3, Praha 1. Tel: 224 811 165
KOZICKA
The 'Little Goat' is a large cellar bar very popular with Czechs, tourists and expats alike. The service can be a little Gruff but the atmosphere is almost always good, even when they are playing Bon Jovi. They serve tasty Krusovice beer. There is also a full food menu.
Open Monday to Friday 12pm to 4am, Saturdays 6pm to 4am, Sundays 6pm to 3am.
Kozi 1, Praha 1. Tel: 224 818 308
SOLIDNI NEJISTOTA
The name means Solid Uncertainty. This trendily designed circular bar and disco is possibly the best place to pick up girls in Prague. Although we are not offering a guarantee. They have a full food menu.
Open daily from 6pm to 6am
Pstrossova 21, Praha 1
BOMBAY CAFE
Situated directly above and owned by the same people as the Rasoi Indian Restaurant, Bombay is a popular late night bar often populated by large groups of tourists. Later on their dance floor fills up with people dancing to the latest hits. A fun place.
Open daily til late.

LE CLAN
One of Prague's best-kept secrets, Le Clan is a cooler than cool late night cellar bar that only ever really gets going at around 4am when most of the other bars are closed. A split-ending staircase welcomes you into a stylish bar with good music and an exotic array of customers of every nationality, age, colour and sexual preference. Le Clan also has a VSP (very strange people) room with access available only to the extra-trendy. Entrance at weekends is free until 2am when there is a 100 crown cover charge. Drinks are also a little bit more pricey here.
Open daily 10pm to 3am except: Mon: Closed Sat: 10pm to 6am.
Balbínova 23, Prague 2. Tel: 222 25 12 26
LA CASA BLU
South American bar with a great atmosphere and good selection of bar food and cocktails. As you might expect, it is popular with the Latino community.

BAR AND BOOKS
This is possibly the most sophisticated cocktail bar in Prague's old town, rising above a crowded market due to its plush ambience, exceptional service and finely made drinks. The location is fabulous with a perfect rear view of the fairytale-like Tyn Church. The place to go if you really want to impress your boyfriend, lover, wife, boss etc. Also available in two New York locations.
Open Sunday to Thursday 5pm to 3am, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 4am.
Tynska 19, tel: 224 808 250.
AL CAPONE'S
Cut-price cocktails in the centre of Prague in this tiniest of bars. A great atmosphere often builds up this place late on weekends although the staff often struggle to cope with the increasing numbers of customers.

HAPU
This grungy rough and ready joint has paid little attention to questions of decor or style but concentrates all its efforts on its most important commodity: the cocktails, which are both excellent and adventurous as well as good value. The place to go in Vinohrady for a late night drink.
Open every day til late.
Orlicka 8, Prague 3 Tel: 222 720 158
M1
Another late night cocktail bar much loved by trendy students and other youngsters.
