Prague Tours

Private tour to Karlstejn castle

Karlstejn embodies all those boyish romantic ideas you’ve ever had of what a medieval castle should look like and represents an excellent excursion out of Prague.

It was in 1348 that Emperor Charles IV founded Karlstejn as a royal treasury and a vault for the Imperial crown jewels and his collection of holy relics. Probably the most famous and most splendid Bohemian castle, Karlstejn perches on a crag above the Berounka river, looking taller than it is wide, and for many represents the symbol of Czech state independence.  It is proudly listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On this tour your guide will pick up from your hotel and then drive you the one hour journey to the small town of Karlstejn.  On arrival we will climb the hill on foot past numerous shops and restaurants to the castle – cars are not permitted into the complex.

The guided tour will take in the  handsome audience hall and the imperial bedroom, the Marian Tower with Charles' private quarters, the Church of Our Lady with fragments of its beautiful original frescoes and the Great Tower, placed in the very heart of the castle complex, where the royal regalia, jewels and relics were originally kept.

The tour lasts approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Price for guide and driver: 225 euros.

Please note that this tour does not include entrance fees.
